A New Blog

Hello everyone, I want to share with you all my new blog I have going.  I applied for a grant, that I received, that gave my classroom 20 iPads for a 1:1 initiative.  OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!  It is so awesome and has changed learning in my room.  I have been hugged so much these past several days more than I have all year!  I'm constantly hearing the kids say how much fun they are having and the best part is they are LEARNING!  They are engaged and their understanding of not only the concepts I'm teaching but their knowledge and use of technology has also grown.  Most, but not all, of these kids have used an iPad before but I'm not really using them in the same way as they are used to.  I love that this is leveling the playing field for the kids that do not have access to technology at home.  So, if you are interested, follow along on our iPad journey at

Ways To Make 7, 8, 9 and 10

Here's a review game.  I didn't put the directions but it's very simple.  Students pick a flower and solve the math equation and then place it over/around the correct flower pot.  When they are finished they can write all of the ways (equations) to make the numbers in order.  If I have time I will make recording sheets for these.

+/- Owls

It's snowing here in Virginia, yhea!!!!!!....snow day!( first one all year), so I have time to post a game I made and maybe make another. The rules on how to play it are long and sort of complex, so if you have questions, just ask me.  I had my kids play it and they loved it!!!  So, enjoy and yahoo for snow.

NO Lion....YES Lamb Math Game

Since we just had our first snowfall of the season and it's supposed to be 75 DEGREES!!! on Thursday, I decided to make this game a Spring theme.  I hope you can use this in your classroom.  It's sort of a math version of "sentence or not a sentence" game I've made before.  In this game, the students need to solve an equation and then see if the answer is correct.  There is a recording sheet to go with it!  Enjoy.

Penguin Making Words

I never seem to have a group of kids that like what the kids the year before liked!  So, the stuff I made for my last year's group isn't much of a hit,  but they are going nuts for "making words" kind of games, and I don't have very many of them.  So, I've made a few.  Here is the first one, Penguins Waddle and it has a recording sheet to go with it.

Fast Phrases Game

The Super Bowl is on, my lesson plans are done for the week and  now I have a chance to post a game I made.  I totally copped the idea from Heidi over at swampfrogfirstgraders.blogspot.com.  If you haven't had the chance to see her wonderful blog, hop on over and take a peek.  If I knew how to have all of the wonderful buttons like so many other blogs have, I'd have a button for Swampfrog as it's one of my favorites.  Anyway, she called the game "Left, Center, Right" and you play using cards that have sight words on them.  I remade the game using Fry's Fast Phrases.  The directions are with the download.  If you want the one with the sight words you can get it at Swampfrog.  Enjoy!
